Plans Progress for Cardiff Draconians to Enhance Lydstep Park
Proposals for a 30-year lease could unlock new funding for Cardiff Draconians to improve facilities at Lydstep Park.

Plans are moving forward that could enable Cardiff Draconians AFC to secure additional funding to improve facilities at Lydstep Park, supporting the club’s long-term development and community ambitions. The proposal centres on a 30-year lease agreement that would give the club responsibility for managing and maintaining the site, including the surrounding green space.
Under the proposed arrangement, the land would remain in Council ownership and public access would be preserved. Crucially, the lease would allow the club to access funding streams that are not available to local authorities, opening the door to investment in pitches, infrastructure, and wider facilities.
The move reflects support for a well-run, community-focused club with a clear vision of being “At the Heart of the Community.” Similar community asset leases have already helped sports clubs across Cardiff enhance their facilities for young people and families. If approved, the agreement would provide Cardiff Draconians with the long-term security needed to invest confidently in Lydstep Park and continue growing grassroots football in Llandaff North.
Residents with questions about the legal notice, including the use of the term “disposal,” are encouraged to seek clarification. In this context, it refers to the granting of a lease rather than the sale of land.
